Healthcare Access for
Every Community
Healthcare access shouldn't depend on your zip code — but for too long, in too many of our communities, it has. That's the reality I've spent my career working to change.
As Chair of the Cook County Health and Hospitals Committee, I've made it my mission to expand access to quality care and make sure every community is served — not just the ones with the loudest voice or the deepest pockets. Healthcare access, support for small businesses, and investment in our local economies have always been connected for me. With this new role, I'm more committed than ever to building on that work and making sure every voice is heard.

Bringing Preventive Care Home
The Cook County Birthday Health Screening Resolution started as a pilot — and it worked. It's now a full, ongoing program, giving residents a built-in reminder to get screened and stay ahead of preventable illness.

Investing in Behavioral Health Infrastructure
Two of the achievements I'm most proud of as Committee Chair: establishing the new Crisis Triage and Stabilization Center at Provident Hospital, and launching the new Bronzeville Behavioral Health Center. Both give residents a real alternative to crisis, and a real path to care.

Showing Up for Men and Families
This year marked the 5th Annual Men's and Families' Health Fair, with a new partner host site at New Life Covenant Southeast Church — meeting families where they already gather, with the screenings and resources they need.

Growing the Next Generation of Healthcare Workers
Through continued support of the Provident Scholarship Fund, we've directed millions of dollars in scholarships to young people pursuing careers in medicine — investing in healthcare equity for the long haul.

Meeting People Where They Are
I make it a priority to visit Cook County Jail and the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center regularly — not for a photo-op, but to talk directly with the people inside about what they actually need to succeed after release. Those conversations come back to the same thing again and again: real, accessible mental health care. That overlap between behavioral health and reentry is exactly why my work on both fronts is connected.
